Taittiriya Upanishad is one of the 10 Principle Upanishads and part of the 2nd oldest Veda, Krishna Yajur Veda. It says that the highest goal of human life is to know the Brahman, the Absolute Truth. It is divided into three Vallis or Sections:
1) Siksha Valli
2) Brahmananda Valli
3) Bhrigu Valli
The 1st two sections provides intellectual understandings of Nature of Brahman while last section presents the practical method of realising the Brahman.
Vedic Chanting- level 2 Course is focused on : TAITTIRIYA UPANISHAD, Bhrigu Valli - Sage Bhrigu’s Realisation
The journey begins when the young, bright Bhrigu approaches his father, Sage Varuna, to teach him the knowledge that will make him realise the Truth. This is where it begins when Guru and disciple meet and live together to unfold the spiritual adventure.
Much hard work is required to achieve the ultimate goal. It is described as Tapas. It means making a penetrating enquiry into Truth in accordance with the need of the moment. Whenever Bhrigu comes to a crossroad on the path, he is asked to intensely introspect and find the answer himself. He had a lot of ‘spoon-feeding’ in the Brahmananda Valli, but that is over. Now is the time for hard work, deep reflection and tough exploration into the very core of his Being. The Guru only guides, never spoon feeds. The disciple is left to do the toiling. It is the only method that really works on this Path.
When we finally hear the triumphant Bhrigu singing his “Song of Realisation” we cannot help feeling with him some of the vibrant exhilaration that goes through his heart after what he has experienced. It rubs off onto us, and hopefully, we too become inspired to practice meditation and make a firm determination to do “Tapas”!!!
