Gentle sleep, Insomnia, Sleep problems, Stress, Bedtime hygiene

Cambridge Dictionary has 3 meanings for bedroom

1. a room with a bed or beds for sleeping

2. a room used for sleeping in–“all parents dream of children who tidy their bedrooms without being asked”

3. relating to sexual activity– “My dad was embarrassed by the bedroom scenes in the play”

Let’s park No. 3 aside for now!!!!! So, we have established that bedroom is a place with bed or beds and generally used for sleeping in. However, this place can soon turn into a nightmare if we find difficulty sleeping in the room. The fact that I cannot sleep in my own bedroom can be a nerve racking thought even before entering the room. Do I have insomnia? Here are some tips for you to follow your ‘bedroom hygiene’ that will help you to relax and ease into a good night’s sleep

1. Establishing a regular relaxing bedtime routine: A regular nightly routine helps the body recognize that it is bedtime. This could include taking warm shower or bath, reading a book, or yoga stretches. When possible, try to avoid emotionally upsetting conversations and activities before attempting to sleep.

2. Making sure that the sleep environment is pleasant. Mattress and pillows should be comfortable. The bedroom should be cool – between 60 and 67 Fahrenheit (15 to 20 Celsius) for optimal sleep. Bright light from lamps can make it difficult to fall asleep, so turn those light off or adjust them when possible. Consider using blackout curtains, eye shades, ear plugs, meditation or yoga nidra audios, humidifiers, fans and other devices that can make the bedroom more relaxing.

3. Put your money where your mattress is. Regular replacement is required. Experts agree that if you have had the same mattress for five to seven years or more, it is likely not providing you with optimal comfort and support. Choose top-quality pillows and mattresses to keep your spine properly aligned and comfortable. Purchasing a bed that is too small is a common mistake,

And as for definition No. 3 – Yes!!! The bed is for sleep and love ONLY

I am sure you will have some quirky bedtime routines. Would love to read those and your views on these bedtime hygiene
